In order to speed up the green transition, the logistics sector and governments worldwide need to take “a serious look” at how electric charging infrastructure is developed along trucking routes, especially in countries where electrified trucking fleets are already a reality, according to the boss of DP World.

Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, CEO of the Emirati-headquartered logistics and ports firm, believes there are several initiatives the sector can take to accelerate the pathway to net zero.

“From the logistics perspective, the sector needs to take a serious look at how electrical charging infrastructure is developed along trucking routes, especially in geographies where electrified trucking fleets are already a reality [such as Europe],” Sulayem told Al-Monitor.

“Furthermore, R&D [research and development] into dual fuel solutions such as hydrogen diesel needs to be done to understand how these technologies can help abate emissions in geographies where electrification is significantly more challenging [like sub-Saharan Africa],” he said.
