Turkish court jails journalist over proverb that 'insulted' Erdogan

TV media figure Sedef Kabas is the latest among tens of thousands to be investigated over insulting the president during Erdogan's time in office.

ISTANBUL — One of Turkey’s best-known TV journalists was spending a third night behind bars on Monday after being jailed on a charge of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Media rights groups and opposition figures condemned the Istanbul court’s decision to keep Sedef Kabas in prison ahead of a trial that stems from her reciting a proverb.
