Turkey and the United Arab Emirates are working to take their commercial and economic relations to new heights amid fast improving bilateral ties.

Bilateral trade reached a record-breaking $19 billion in 2022, according to a Turkish official, who told Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity, “We expect another record for 2023.”

Referring to the 2023 Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement between the two countries, he said, “We can do better. There are still some bottlenecks in implementing CEPA as a full-blown free trade agreement because some trade quotas remain.”

Another Turkish official who also spoke to Al-Monitor on condition of anonymity confirmed the honeymoon, saying, “Our relations have never been better. At times, I feel the Emiratis are treating us as well as if not even better than the Americans.”
